Changes That Happen During Menopause
Menopause is the permanent end to the menstruation cycle in a woman who reaches the average age of fifty-one in the USA. Other countries have slightly earlier or later ages depending on the overall nutrition and doctor’s care available to the women in that country. Menopause is said to have been reached when a woman has not had any sort of period for a minimum of one year since the last one.
How to recognize the symptoms?
There is an onset of biological changes in a woman’s body when she reaches her mid thirties. This is the time when she experiences some symptoms. The changes begin with her periods; they either become shorter and lighter or long lasting. However this depends on the health of the woman. The irregularity of the periods will also be observed during this period as months pass on without her having period.
The noticeable symptoms of menopause sets in when a woman gets into her forties which includes hot flashes that is the general symptoms of menopause. They can also be troubled with other symptoms such as mood swings, sleeping dir orders, changes in her skin like dryness around the eyes and mouth.
In addition, there can be a loss of bladder control and an increase in fat around her abdomen. Her breasts will also start to lose their fullness and her hair may also thin slightly.
Women usually retain the sex drive that they had before starting menopause, but sometimes there is a decrease in sex drive, which may be connected to the problem of vaginal dryness which makes intercourse uncomfortable if certain measures are not taken.
Tests and Causes
As for the cause, woman’s body produces estrogen in a certain amount throughout her life, but with the onset of menopause the body’s production of estrogen decreases and the progesterone that helps produce estrogen is also reduced. Eggs which were regularly produced are now fewer and are not suitable for fertilization and if by chance they do ripe then the percentage of success is less because of the inactive progesterone and also for the ovulation period. The hormones are responsible for this major change in a woman’s body and the various mood swings.
To confirm if a woman is going through menopause is to have a blood test which checks out the FSH level and the estrogen level. If they appear below normal then you can be sure that the woman is going through menopause.
If the woman is too young to start the process, then the doctors can take the appropriate measures for treatment, such as lifestyle changes or hormone therapies. There are certain procedures that might trigger this early menopause, such as hysterectomies and chemotherapy or radiation treatments.
